founder of the American Society of Jewelry Historians, was honored at the ASJH Symposium at the Brooklyn Museum for her extraordinary leadership and ongoing work on the behalf of the Society. Congratulations and thanks to Jean!

Special Topics in 19th and 20th Century Jewelry, Christie's : This intensive master class will approach 19th and 20th century jewelry from a variety of angles. The first two days will consist of morning lectures and afternoon field studies.  Lecture topics will range from the social significance of jewelry to the history of major houses such as Tiffany & Co.  An authority on precious stones will lecture from a connoisseur's point of view.  Field trips will include a private curator-led tour of American jewelry at the Metropolitan Museum's newly renovated American wing and a behind-the-scenes tour of the Van Cleef & Arpels workshop and archives.  On the morning of the third day, there will be a walkthrough of the Christie's sale with a Christie's specialist.

A Collector’s Menagerie: Animal Sculpture from the Ancient World, The Sladmore Gallery, 57 Jermyn Street, St James’s, London.

Ever since he first drew on the walls of his cave, man has had the desire to depict the creatures around him. The Sladmore Gallery is renowned for exhibiting animal sculpture from the last 200 years, and has now invited Rupert Wace Ancient Art to introduce collectors to a veritable menagerie from the ancient world, spanning a period of some 2,400 years. A Collector’s Menagerie: Animal Sculpture from the Ancient World will be on view from May 12th to May 28th, 2010. Around 70 important and appealing pieces will be offered for prices ranging from £1,000 to over £150,000.

The Lost World of Old Europe, The Danube Valley, 5000-3500 BC, Institute for the Study of the Ancient World , New York University, 15 E. 84th Street, New York City

An extensive collection of prestige goods made of gold, copper and exotic shells that held significant social, political and perhaps religious meaning. Such items were traded as far away as 3000 kilometers and a greater quantity of gold has been found in Old Europe than in all of the archaeological sites before 3500 BC. The jewelry produced by Old Europeans was an aesthetic and technical achievement, often using teeth, bone, gold and copper beads as well as various types of shells. For more information oldeurope . Silver Seduction: The Art of Mexican Modernist Antonio Pineda, Museum of International Folk Art, Santa Fe, New Mexico

June 4, 2010 through January 2, 2011. A museum in the Southwest is revving up for a new silver jewelry exhibit set to highlight the work of the late Antonio Pineda, a world-class designer and member of Mexico's famed Taxco school of silverwork. Nearly 200 examples of Pineda's acclaimed silverwork will be on display in "Silver Seduction: The Art of Mexican Modernist Antonio Pineda," a traveling exhibition set to open at the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe, N.M., on June 4, 2010.
